Realty index hits two-month high, DLF soars 5%
Stocks from the realty space have extended their rally with many frontline stocks such as DLF, Bombay Dyeing, Housing Development and Infrastructure (HDIL), DB Realty, Sobha Developers, Parsvnath Developers and Godrej Properties trading higher by 3 – 7% on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The BSE Realty index is the largest gainer among sectoral indices today and has hit its two-month high of 1,689 points. The index is currently trading up 3% compared to less than 1% gain in the benchmark index Sensex.
According to reports, the property registrations in Mumbai surged 45% in December 2011 over November. “Residential property market in Mumbai will start witnessing a recovery in the second half of 2012 as it looks set to bottom out by the second quarter of the year," said property consultancy firm Jones Lang LaSalle India in a recent report.
Among individual stocks, Bombay Dyeing has surged 7% to Rs 463, followed byDLF, DB Realty and Parsvnath Developers that have gained 5% each on the BSE.
