Reliance Industries (RIL) today said that after a ministerial panel on Tuesday allowed private airlines to import jet fuel directly, it has been approached by airlines to provide them services for handling jet fuel on their behalf at the airports.

The discussions are in the preliminary stage and modalities are yet to be finalised, the company said.

Direct import of jet fuel will allow cash-strapped airlines to save on high sales tax charged by state governments.
