Power cos stocks end mixedPowerGrid up 0.42%,NTPC falls 0.35%

Shares of power companies today settled mixed with PowerGrid Corp gaining and NTPC falling, as the country faced a major power crisis for the second consecutive day today as three grids serving Northern, Eastern and North-Eastern regions failed this afternoon.

PowerGrid Corporation settled at Rs 118.55, up 0.42%, while NTPC was down 0.35% at Rs 157.10 on the BSE.

Among others, NHPC rose by 0.83%, Tata Power lost 0.46% and Reliance Power fell by 0.76%.

The states affected included Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, Assam and Union Territory of Chandigarh, covering more than half of the population.

The Northern Grid, which collapsed yesterday and was restored after 15 hours, again tripped today. The Eastern and North-Eastern transmission lines, too, failed this afternoon, worsening the power situation in the country when it is facing drought-like situation in most parts.
